Aero Vodochody delivers key components for C-390 Millennium, supporting Czech military procurement

By Defence Industry Europe

Czech aerospace company Aero Vodochody has completed delivery of a full set of structural components for Embraer’s C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft. The shipment includes the rear fuselage, cargo ramp, all doors, and the wing leading edges.

A total of eight component sets are expected to be produced by Aero this year as part of its long-term involvement in the C-390 Millennium programme. This latest delivery includes parts for two aircraft designated for the Czech Army.

“The C-390 Millennium programme is a great example of long-term, effective industrial cooperation,” said Viktor Sotona, President of Aero. “Thanks to the trust of our customer, we have been able to significantly increase our production volume.”

Aero has been involved in the C-390 project since 2011 and serves as Embraer’s exclusive supplier for several critical components. In October 2024, the two companies signed a contract amendment enhancing the Czech contribution to the aircraft’s production.

This strengthened partnership underlines Aero’s growing role in global aerospace supply chains and supports the continued development of the Czech aerospace sector. “Our aerostructures programs are becoming a strategically important revenue pillar for Aero, alongside the production of our tactical and training aircraft, the L-39 Skyfox,” Sotona added.

Transport of the components depends on size and configuration, with large items such as the rear fuselage and cargo ramp moved by road to Hamburg and then by sea to Brazil. Smaller parts including wing leading edges and doors are transported via air freight through Frankfurt after initial consolidation in Weiterstadt.

Once in Brazil, all components are delivered by road to Embraer’s final assembly facility in Gavião Peixoto. The aircraft assembled there will serve both domestic and international operators, now including the Czech military.

Aero Vodochody is the Czech Republic’s largest aerospace manufacturer and one of the oldest aircraft producers globally. In addition to its military trainer and light combat aircraft, the company plays a significant role in civil aviation through partnerships with leading global manufacturers.
