Armed Forces of Ukraine strikes russian submarine and air defence system in Crimea

The Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully launched a strike against a Russian submarine and damaged an air defence system in occupied Crimea. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced these developments on Saturday via a Facebook post.

In Sevastopol, the port where the attack took place, the Russian Black Sea fleet’s submarine, ‘Rostov-on-Don,’ was targeted and sank as a result of the impact. This Kilo-class attack submarine had previously suffered serious damage from a Ukrainian missile strike in September 2023 and had undergone repairs and testing in Sevastopol harbor.

“The destruction of ‘Rostov-on-Don’ once again proves that there is no safe place for the Russian fleet in the Ukrainian territorial waters of the Black Sea,” stated the Ukrainian military.

In addition to the submarine attack, the Ukrainian forces reported significant damage to four launchers of the S-400 “Triumph” air defence system during Friday’s operations.

This successful strike underscores the ongoing tensions and military engagements between Ukraine and Russia, particularly in the strategically crucial region of Crimea.
