Aselsan tests Deringöz Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV)

By Defence Industry Europe

Turkish defence giant Aselsan has successfully completed the diving tests of Türkiye’s first autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), named Deringöz.

The initial tests of Deringöz, conducted in March, have been declared a success, paving the way for further development and deployment. Deringöz stands out with its modular design that supports autonomous mobility, allowing it to be utilized for a wide range of military and civilian applications beneath the waves.

Equipped with cutting-edge features, Deringöz boasts high maneuverability, precise navigation capabilities, and the capacity for customization to meet various mission requirements. Its advanced optical and sonar imaging technologies, alongside a robust wireless communication infrastructure, set a new standard in underwater operations.

One of the most impressive aspects of Deringöz is its operational depth. The vehicle is capable of operating at depths of up to 600 meters, with a maximum speed of 5.5 knots and a scanning speed of 3 knots. This allows for extensive exploration and operational capabilities not previously possible.

Aselsan envisions Deringöz as a transformative tool in underwater operations, stating, “DERİNGÖZ is planned to be a vehicle that not only meets the needs but also creates a need for underwater operations.” This vision underscores the vehicle’s potential to revolutionize how underwater tasks are approached, offering unparalleled flexibility and efficiency.

The AUV is designed to excel in a variety of missions, including underwater research, reconnaissance and surveillance, mine detection, pipeline inspection, and the protection of ports and bases. With such versatility, Deringöz is expected to become a critical asset in ensuring the safety and security of maritime interests.
