Australia’s EOS Defence Systems has signed a memorandum of understanding with state-owned VOP CZ to look at working together on wheeled armoured vehicle programmes for the Czech Army. Under the agreement, EOS would contribute its remote weapon systems, while VOP CZ would bring its vehicle integration, manufacturing and support capabilities.

The memorandum was signed at the Future Forces Forum in Prague on 21 October. It also covers other possible defence projects involving VOP CZ, both in the Czech Republic and elsewhere in Europe. The two companies will assess how their technology and industrial capacity could meet the Czech Army’s requirements.

“This agreement represents an important step in EOS’ continued growth in Europe and reflects our commitment to building strong industrial partnerships in key markets,” said EOS Chief Executive Dr Andreas Schwer. “VOP CZ has established itself as a trusted partner on major Czech programmes and brings valuable vehicle integration and manufacturing expertise.”

A partner with an established role

VOP CZ already works with BAE Systems Hägglunds on the local assembly and production of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles. It also cooperates with Thales on manufacturing Bushmaster armoured vehicles and develops its own special-purpose platforms, among them the TAROS robotic vehicle.

That gives EOS a foothold with a company already embedded in Czech military vehicle programmes. However, the memorandum does not name a vehicle that would carry EOS equipment, nor does it include a contract to supply weapon systems.

“I am very pleased to see the start of this new partnership with EOS,” said VOP CZ Managing Director Vlastimil Navrátil. “Both of our organizations bring valuable expertise and capabilities, and I am confident that this cooperation will lead to successful initiatives that support and strengthen the Czech Republic and Europe’s collective defense and security.”

EOS says it has sold more than 2,500 remote weapon systems worldwide, some of which are deployed in current conflict zones. Its customers include armed forces in Australia, the Middle East, North America, Europe and South-East Asia, and its equipment is used in roles such as counter-drone defence.

The deal is part of EOS’s push to grow in Europe through industrial cooperation. Neither company gave a procurement timetable, production commitment or contract value.
