The upgraded Slinger will feature improved sensing and selectable autonomy, including autonomous kill chain functions designed to operate at scale. EOS said the changes are intended to counter drone threats that can outpace the response of a conventional system or human operator.
Like the current model, the new Slinger will be fully stabilized, allowing it to engage targets while moving. It will be able to engage drones and ground threats from the same weapon station without reconfiguration.
“The need for affordable, effective counter-drone capability is visible across the US force today,” said Shawn Baerlocher, chief executive officer of EOS Defense Systems USA. “Our customers need a solution now, built on timelines rapid and flexible enough to match the threat on the modern battlefield.”
EOS said production in Huntsville will shorten supply chains, improve lead times and reduce costs for U.S. and allied customers. The company plans to provide more details about the system and its production plans in the coming months.
