BAE Systems Hägglunds expands with new facilities in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden

Peab has secured a contract worth SEK 280 million to construct new test facilities and office buildings for BAE Systems Hägglunds. The development is part of the company's ongoing expansion to accommodate a growing volume of orders.

BAE Systems Hägglunds, a key player in the global defence industry, has been operating in Örnsköldsvik for over a century. Today, it remains one of the municipality’s largest employers and continues to invest in its local operations.

The new construction will be undertaken as a turnkey contract in partnership. Peab, a leading Nordic construction company, will begin work in the spring of 2025, with completion scheduled for the autumn of 2026.

“It feels really good that we have been entrusted with building the new premises needed to meet the higher demand that BAE Systems Hägglunds is experiencing,” said Anders Gard, CEO of Peab Industribyggnad i norr AB. He highlighted Peab’s expertise in industrial and security-classified construction projects as a key factor in securing the contract.

The agreement also includes optional extensions worth up to SEK 330 million, which could be activated as additional requirements emerge. This follows an initial phase of planning, during which Peab collaborated with BAE Systems Hägglunds to optimise the project and address potential risks.

The project marks a significant investment in Örnsköldsvik’s industrial infrastructure. As BAE Systems Hägglunds expands, the new facilities will support increased operational capacity and strengthen its long-term presence in the region.
