Czech defence company Retia, a subsidiary of Czechoslovak Group (CSG), and the Military Technical Institute will be involved in the support, service, and maintenance of ELM-2084 MMR/MADR (Mobile Air Defence Radar) systems as a subcontractor of Israeli company ELTA Systems, a branch of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).

A contract for the lifetime support of eight ELM-2084 MMR/MADR radars is expected to be signed by the end of February. The value of the agreement, including spare parts, is estimated at CZK 4.3 billion, the Czech Defence Ministry said.

Under the agreement, ELTA Systems (in cooperation with Czech industry) will ensure the faultless operation of the ELM-2084 MMR/MADR radars, availability of spare parts for service and repairs, service activities, preventive maintenance, or major repairs, including spare parts and consumables.

The contract is valid until September 2044. Twenty years is the expected lifespan for the ELM-2084 MMR/MADR radars.

As the Czech Defence Ministry stated, the country’s entities will play a key role in the 20-year support, service, and maintenance of the radars. Czech company Retia and the state-owned Military Technical Institute will be responsible for a wide range of processes as local subcontractors for ELTA Systems.

The Czech Republic signed an intergovernmental CZK 3.5 billion contract with Israel for the purchase of eight of these radars in December 2019. The eight systems were delivered to the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic in December 2023.

According to the plans of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, five ELM-2084 MMR/MADR radars will be deployed at permanent positions and integrated with NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence Systems (NATINAMDS).

The remaining three radars will be used by the armed forces to protect military objects and critical infrastructure.
