Danish Armed Forces receive final Leopard 2A7 tank from KMW

On September 21, the Danish Armed Forces announced the receipt of the last of 44 Leopard 2 tanks upgraded from the A5 to A7 standard. These modernization efforts were carried out at the facilities of the German heavy arms manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), a company of KNDS.

 

The formal handover ceremony of the last upgraded Leopard 2A7 tank to the Danish Armed Forces took place on September 21st at the Danish military base in Holstebro.

 

 

According to the Danish Armed Forces, the Leopard 2 main battle tank upgrade encompassed several enhancements, including a new and more effective 120mm cannon (L55A1), improved communication systems, enhanced protection, improved air conditioning, and various other improvements.

The process of modernizing Danish Leopard 2 tanks from the A5 to A7 standard lasted several years.  The initial two Leopard 2A7 tanks were delivered by KMW in 2019. Subsequently, additional batches of tanks underwent upgrades and were delivered to the Danish military by the German defence company, the manufacturer of Leopard 2 tanks.
