The system, equipped with a 155-millimetre gun on a six-wheeled truck, marks a notable increase in the battlegroup’s firepower.
The Archer can strike targets up to 50 kilometres away and redeploy quickly to avoid counter-attacks. Its arrival in Estonia follows the British Army’s decision to acquire the system from Sweden after transferring its own mobile artillery to Ukraine.
This deployment reflects NATO’s commitment to strengthening its defensive posture on the eastern flank. At the 2022 Madrid Summit, Allies agreed to expand multinational battlegroups in Eastern Europe, including the addition of air defence and heavy artillery capabilities.
