The UmiX-40 IMU will significantly enhance the precision and reliability of the SIRTAP UAS, particularly in demanding operational environments. The collaboration is expected to bolster the unmanned system’s ability to perform effectively during long-endurance intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
Exail’s UmiX-40 IMU combines high-precision navigation and stabilisation capabilities within an ultra-compact, solid-state design. This feature makes it ideally suited for integration into space-constrained platforms such as the SIRTAP UAS. The unit incorporates Fibre-Optic Gyroscopes (FOG) and Vibrating Beam Accelerometers, both developed in-house, to ensure reliable performance even in GNSS-denied environments and under extreme operational conditions.
The robust architecture of the UmiX-40, coupled with its plug-and-play integration, meets the operational demands of ISR missions across varied and challenging terrains. As a result, it ensures mission continuity and flight safety even in contested or degraded navigation scenarios.
Expressing his satisfaction with the project, Alexandre Maia, Regional Sales Manager at Exail, said, “We are grateful for the trust Airbus and GMV have placed in us for this important project. The UmiX-40’s precision, ruggedness, and compact design make it an excellent fit for SIRTAP UAS’s demanding operational needs. Its high-performance capabilities will provide a reliable and precise navigation solution to meet the operational requirements of the Spanish Army and Air and Space Forces.”
The SIRTAP UAS, developed by Airbus, is designed for advanced ISR missions and offers more than 20 hours of operational endurance with a range exceeding 2,000 km. The integration of Exail’s UmiX-40 IMUs will ensure the UAS’s seamless operation throughout all flight phases, from taxiing to in-flight activities and landing, even in challenging environments.
