The facility is aimed particularly at start-ups, including participants in NATO’s DIANA and DEFINE accelerator programmes, with the goal of serving businesses from across NATO member states. The launch of the new centre was announced by Millog in August.
“The defence sector needs agile innovation and testing capabilities to quickly adopt new technologies. Our test center helps companies develop technologies that enhance the security of Finland and our NATO allies,” says Toni Piispa, Vice President, Authorities and Industry Business Unit.
As a strategic partner of the Finnish Defence Forces, Millog brings strong insight into the needs and operational context of the defence sector. This makes the company a capable partner in the development and evaluation of new systems.
At the test centre, companies can assess network solutions and software either independently or with Millog’s experts, with a focus on safety-critical environments and compliance with defence standards. Testing is conducted in a data centre environment both on-site and remotely, supporting the demonstration of ready-made systems as well as the creation of new innovations.
The platform allows the use of virtual Linux and Windows server and workstation environments, Android-based mobile solutions, containerised systems, and integration of external internet-connected devices and sensors. Companies also gain access to Häme University of Applied Sciences’ GPU server, enabling AI-based testing and the development of AI applications.
HAMK’s technology environment supports the testing of AI-driven defence solutions, including new language model and agent-based applications, and was completed over the summer with integration by RAIN.global Oy. Together, Millog’s test centre and HAMK’s GPU server form the DEFINE Testing Environment, which will soon expand to include an additive manufacturing development platform.
