Finland orders Spike anti-tank guided missiles from EuroSpike

The Finnish Defence Forces signed a contract for an unspecified number of Spike anti-tank guided missiles. The weapons will be delivered by the EuroSpike, a joint venture company of Rheinmetall Electronics, Diehl Defence and Rafael.

As reported by Defence Industry Europe, in December 2022 the Ministry of Defence of Finland authorized the Finnish Defence Forces to order Spike SR, LR2 and ER2 missile systems. According to the Finnish defence ministry’s December statement, the overall value of the procurement is EUR 223.6 million (without value-added tax).

The Spike SR and LR2 anti-tank guided missiles will be delivered to the Finnish Army, while the Spike ER2 will be supplied to the Finnish Navy.

The information on the contract signed was revealed by the German defence industry company Rheinmetall in the press release which is one of the shareolders of EuroSpike joint venture. Rheinmetall is to participate in the production of Spike systems for the Finnish Defence Forces. It has received an order worth a figure in the mid-double-digit million-euro range, company said.

“Of great importance for Rheinmetall, this order also underscores the tremendous trust placed in EuroSpike GmbH: the German-Israeli joint venture is now an industrial mainstay of the antitank capability of many EU and NATO member nations”, Rheinmetall underlined in the press statement.
