General Dynamics UK to provide advanced Post Flight Analysis capability for P-8A Poseidon

By Defence Industry Europe

General Dynamics United Kingdom Limited Mission Systems division has been selected by the UK Ministry of Defence to deliver Post Flight Analysis (PFA) capability for the P-8A Poseidon aircraft stationed at RAF Lossiemouth. The contract, granted by Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), the procurement branch of the Ministry of Defence, includes an advanced acoustic replay and intelligence exploitation system.

This new system will bolster the Poseidon’s Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination (PED) capabilities by providing post-mission analysis tools that allow for the fast-time replay and processing of comprehensive mission data. “We are proud of our longstanding history supporting Maritime Patrol Aircraft fleets around the world and are thrilled to continue our relationship with the Royal Air Force with this contract award. Our industry-leading acoustics processing technology will help to increase the Poseidon aircrew’s operational readiness and tactical advantage against modern submerged threats,” said Tony Morris, vice president of Air and Naval Systems, General Dynamics Mission Systems–International.

The post-flight tool integrates an acoustic range prediction component, enabling operators to perform detailed analyses on recent acoustic intelligence. This function supports the swift generation of acoustic and environmental briefs, aiding subsequent Poseidon missions and contributing to the wider anti-submarine warfare community. Additionally, the system offers comprehensive mission reconstruction capabilities, which facilitate strategic reviews of mission performance.

“General Dynamics United Kingdom’s contract award for the new Post Flight Analysis tool is an important step forward in enhancing the PED capability for the UK Poseidon capability,” said Malcolm French, Poseidon delivery team leader at DE&S, UK Ministry of Defence. This development ensures that aircrews will benefit from cutting-edge technology that strengthens operational preparation and threat response.

Under this agreement, the DE&S Poseidon Delivery Team will procure three units: one for a fixed installation at RAF Lossiemouth’s Main Operating Base and two deployable kits for flexible use. General Dynamics will also provide repair and maintenance support for these units as part of an ongoing support package.
