Lithuanian Armed Forces begins training future FPV drone instructors

By Defence Industry Europe

The Lithuanian Armed Forces have initiated a specialized course aimed at training future instructors for operating FPV (First Person View) drones. This move reflects the Lithuanian military's efforts to integrate experiences from the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, where FPV drones have been extensively used by both sides.

The inaugural group consists of approximately ten soldiers from various branches of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Upon completion of the two-week course, these soldiers will be equipped to train additional FPV drone operators within their respective units. The comprehensive course includes both theoretical and technical aspects, with a strong emphasis on practical training conducted at a military training ground. The Lithuanian General Staff envisions having FPV drone operators in every military unit.

According to the Lithuanian Armed Forces, the FPV drone instructor course was designed based on the experiences of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who have effectively utilized this technology in combat against Russian forces. The course aims to prepare drone operators for both reconnaissance and combat missions, including targeting objectives with drone-carried munitions.

The use of FPV drones on the Ukrainian battlefield has proven to enhance the combat capabilities of fighting units. These drones increase situational awareness by providing real-time tracking of enemy movements and enable harassing attacks on personnel and equipment. Additionally, video footage from FPV drones can be effectively used for information warfare and psychological operations.
