Enhanced version of Trophy APS enters the European market

By Lukasz Prus, Defence Industry Europe

European defence company EuroTrophy GmbH – a joint venture of Rafael, KNDS Deutschland, and General Dynamics European Land Systems – has introduced the enhanced version of its Trophy Active Protection System (APS), designed for all main battle tanks as well as for medium and heavy armored vehicles.

“This capability was successfully added to the Trophy APS as an extension of capabilities to the current system. Thanks to this, the system is capable of protecting combat vehicles against ATGMs, RPGs, as well as UAVs and other top-attack threats ,” Managing Director at EuroTrophy GmbH, Dan Kalfus, told Defence Industry Europe.

“This capability is based on lessons learned from ongoing military conflicts in Europe and the Middle East, where armored personnel carriers and main battle tanks are vulnerable to attacks from first-person-view (FPV) drones and similar threats, this is evident in Ukraine,” Kalfus said.

The new version of Trophy APS was developed solely through a software upgrade. It uses the same suite of sensors and effectors. This is important because the new capabilities of the system do not impact the hardware’s weight and size. This means that current users of the Trophy APS can upgrade the system and receive enhanced protection capabilities for their fleets.

“The upgrade is available to the  current users of Trophy,” said Dan Kalfus from EuroTrophy GmbH. “It is also our proposal to new potential customers. Several European countries are currently modernizing their land forces, and the enhanced version of Trophy APS offers them the highest possible level of protection.” he told Defence Industry Europe.

Dan Kalfus stated that the new version of Trophy APS has already proven itself in live firing scenarios, it was stated that EuroTrophy decided to approach the market with an update to the system only once it is proven and matured.

Trophy APS has already been integrated with main battle tanks operated by the land forces of many countries, such as the Abrams, Leopard, and Challenger. Integration with other vehicles selected by European forces – such as the K2 Black Panther – is also possible. In addition, the system can be installed on infantry fighting vehicles and other military platforms.
