Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support, or BAAINBw, awarded the contract. Diehl Defence will build prototypes and conduct comprehensive test firings as part of the adaptation work.
The agreement follows the company’s participation in Maritime Firing Exercise 2025 in October last year. A navalised IRIS-T SLM demonstrator was integrated on the C-deck of the F125 frigate Baden-Württemberg.
Diehl Defence said the anti-air warfare module progressed from concept to firing in less than ten months. It met all established test and evaluation objectives.
The development programme is intended to expand the German Navy’s ability to counter future airborne threats. Diehl Defence said the work would support the Navy’s long-term air defence capabilities through integration of IRIS-T SLM aboard the F125 frigates.
