Germany delivered ammunition for MARS II launchers to Ukraine

By Defence Industry Europe

The Federal Government of Germany has provided the Armed Forces of Ukraine with an additional batch of ammunition for MARS II Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), which Berlin had previously transferred over to Ukraine from the Bundeswehr’s stocks. Due to the capability to precise strike at a distance of up to 80 km, the MARS II is one of the most valuable weapon systems delivered to Ukraine by European countries.

This was announced by Berlin in the updated information about German military support for Ukraine. The German government did not specify the number of ammunition for MARS II systems delivered to Ukraine.

According to the federal government, Germany has so far delivered five MARS II launchers with ammunition to Ukraine. The first three launchers arrived in Ukraine in July 2022.

According to unofficial information from the Ukrainian source, all five German-supplied MARS II launchers are currently operated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. None of the launchers have been destroyed by the Russian army.

MARS II is produced by the German defence company Kraus-Maffei Wegmann (KMW). It is equipped with a European fire control system that allows the firing GMLRS guided missiles and hitting targets at a distance of up to 80 km.
