Germany to boost air defence with Skyranger 30 mobile systems

By Defence Industry Europe

The German Bundestag's Budget Committee has authorized the purchase of 19 Skyranger 30 mobile air defence systems, marking a significant upgrade to the Bundeswehr's capabilities against aerial threats.

This EUR 650 million order encompasses anti-aircraft tanks based on the 8×8 Boxer armored vehicle, outfitted with a 30 mm cannon and the latest Stinger guided missiles for enhanced drone defence.

Funded primarily by the Bundeswehr’s special fund, with Rheinmetall as the main contractor, this initiative also includes development costs and contributions totaling EUR 37 million.

The comprehensive package features a prototype, 18 production models, reloading and workshop vehicles, and simulators, with an option for an additional 30 systems.

Designed as an interim solution, these systems will integrate with the future NNbS air defence system, demonstrating a forward-looking approach to countering aerial threats.
