IAI is a well-recognised player in the Greek defence market. The Hellenic Air Force currently operates Heron unmanned aerial systems, which are used under a leasing agreement signed several years ago between the Greek and Israeli defence ministries.
In addition, in 2023, IAI acquired Greek company Intracom Defense. This entity is a leading European provider of electronic components for missile systems. Intracom acts as a subcontractor for companies such as MBDA, Diehl Defence, and Raytheon.
“IAI’s strong strategic partnership with Greece reflects years of collaboration in support of regional security and technological innovation. From leasing Heron UAVs to the recent acquisition of Intracom Defense, IAI continues to expand its presence and commitment to the Greek and European defence ecosystems,” the Israeli company said in a statement published on social media.
IAI can offer a wide range of advanced defence systems to the Hellenic Armed Forces. As Defence Industry Europe recently reported, Greece is highly interested in acquiring the IAI-developed Barak air defence system. This solution could be procured under the €25 billion armed forces modernisation programme known as Achilles Shield.
IAI’s offer to Greece includes one of the world’s most advanced and combat-proven ballistic missile defence systems – the Arrow. This system is currently operated by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and is set to enter service with the German Armed Forces. In September 2024, Germany signed a contract worth nearly €4 billion with Israel for the procurement of the Arrow 3 system, which will serve as the highest layer of the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI) programme.
At the DEFEA exhibition in Athens, the Israeli defence contractor will also present other solutions, including the LORA missile system, the Mini Harpy loitering munition, and the Heron MKII drone.
