Iran has reportedly purchased hundreds of Russian 9K336 Verba air defence systems in a deal valued at approximately €500 million, according to information obtained by the Financial Times. The transaction was said to have been concluded in secret in December 2025.

Preparations for the purchase reportedly began in July last year. Iranian officials are said to have sent an enquiry to Russia regarding the transaction shortly after the end of the so-called twelve-day war with Israel in June 2025.

Documents and sources cited by the newspaper indicate that Tehran ordered 500 launchers along with 2,500 9M336 missiles. Deliveries are expected to be carried out in three batches between 2027 and 2029.

The order for the Verba systems reportedly involved the Russian company Rosoboroneksport and Iran’s Ministry of Defence and Logistics. The reported acquisition marks a significant procurement of short-range air defence capabilities by Tehran.
