Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, a business area in the Kongsberg Gruppen, has been awarded a 1 350 million NOK contract by Raytheon Missiles & Defense for delivery of the Naval Strike Missile Coastal Defence System (NSM CDS) to Romania.

“Romania’s selection of our NSM Coastal Defence System is an important milestone. Their selection confirms that our world leading solutions are contributing to a nation’s security. The NSM-based system will provide Romania with the most modern and effective coastal defence available today. The contract also continues the successful cooperation we have with Raytheon Missiles & Defense,” says Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.

The NSM CDS is a high performance ground based Coastal Defence system. It has unique features with a net centric architecture which enables multiple simultaneous engagements and over the horizon (OTH) targeting. These capabilities, combined with the unique NSM target recognition, shapes a highly potent and vast SSM system for the future. The system can be closely integrated and adapted to a country’s adjacent weapons and command and control systems. This expands the defended area and enhances the total fighting capability of the force.

The NSM CDS is composed of the following major items:

  • The Fire Distribution Center (FDC) providing Battle Management Command Control Communication Computers and Information (BMC4I),
  • The Naval Strike Missile,
  • The Naval Strike Missile Launcher Vehicle (MLV), a canister protected weapon platform for the NSM missile,
  • Sea surveillance and tracking radar – customer selectable (optional).
