Kongsberg Maritime to supply replenishment-at-sea technology for Indian Navy

By Defence Industry Europe

Norwegian technology company Kongsberg Maritime has been selected to provide its electric replenishment-at-sea (RAS) systems for the Indian Navy's new Fleet Support Ships (FSS) programme. The contract was awarded by Hindustan Shipyard Limited, which is overseeing the construction of five large replenishment vessels.

The Indian Navy’s FSS represents a new class of ships designed to enhance the operational reach and sustainability of naval missions. These vessels will play a critical role in resupplying fuel, provisions, and equipment to naval ships during extended operations at sea.

Kongsberg’s advanced electric RAS system is central to this capability, enabling seamless and efficient resupply while maintaining operational security. The system’s modern design reflects the Indian Navy’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology in its fleet expansion.

This collaboration strengthens the relationship between Kongsberg Maritime and Hindustan Shipyard Limited, highlighting the increasing focus on advanced maritime solutions for defence purposes. The project marks a significant step forward in enhancing the Indian Navy’s operational readiness.
