The Dutch armed forces’ procurement authority signed the NASAMS contract on Belgium’s behalf, with the Belgian Air Force designated as the end user. The Netherlands already operates NASAMS and is handling the Belgian purchase alongside its own expansion of air defence capacity.
“We are very pleased to welcome Belgium to the family of NASAMS nations,” said Kongsberg Chief Executive Eirik Lie. “With the acquisition of NASAMS, Belgium will gain solid national air defence coverage and at the same time contribute to increased European security.”
The Dutch contract adds several NOMADS mobile short-range air defence systems and increases the country’s NASAMS capacity. Both additions form part of CITADEL, the Dutch air defence programme for which Kongsberg signed an earlier contract in 2024.
