Kratos reveals XQ-58A Valkyrie variant with landing fear for CCA contests

By Defence Industry Europe

On 15 April, Kratos officially released the first image of the XQ-58A Valkyrie variant equipped with landing gear on X (formerly Twitter). The development of this version had been announced in August 2024, and its appearance signals Kratos' formal entry into the field of American Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA).

While the U.S. Air Force has selected the General Atomics YFQ-42A and the Anduril YFQ-44A for Increment 1 of the CCA programme, additional competitions are currently ongoing in the United States. The forthcoming Increment 2 phase is also expected to provide further opportunities for industry participants.

Kratos appears to be closely monitoring the U.S. Marine Corps’ MUX-TacAir programme (Marine Air Ground Task Force Unmanned Expeditionary Tactical Aircraft). This initiative is focused on acquiring CCAs designed to operate alongside the Lockheed Martin F-35B in both combat and surveillance missions.
