The propulsion system is being developed for rapid integration across a family of multi-mission weapons. L3Harris has identified a long-range, maneuverable interceptor and strike munitions among the potential applications.
For military operators, the intended gains are greater reach and shorter engagement timelines. L3Harris said the added range would allow launches from safer stand-off distances, while higher speed would leave adversaries less time to evade or reposition.
Scott Alexander, President, Propulsion Systems, Missile Solutions, L3Harris, said: “Our team continues to push the boundaries of ramjet propulsion through disciplined testing and new fuel chemistry. These test results will guide us as we continue to refine this critical propulsion technology that will deliver a clear operational advantage for the U.S. military.”
Cost and production scale are also central to the program. The company is combining propulsion, guidance, sensors and advanced manufacturing in an effort to deliver larger numbers of modular weapons.
Alexander said the architecture was intended to simplify deployment across current launch platforms. “Our designs integrate innovative propulsion with advanced sensor technologies to create capable, modular and cost effective solutions deployable from existing platforms.”
Further ground tests are scheduled for later this year. L3Harris said the results will support the shift from laboratory validation to a propulsion capability suitable for tactical weapons.
