L3Harris Technologies has detailed the role of its WESCAM MX-10 imaging and targeting system in Australian partner SYPAQ’s light fixed-wing surveillance fleet. The sensor supports missions across an operating environment marked by long distances, remote locations and extensive coastlines.

SYPAQ integrates electro-optical and infrared sensors with platforms used by Australian airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance units. The MX-10 supports land surveillance, infrastructure monitoring, security operations and emergency search and rescue.

Crews use the system to detect, identify and track objects of interest. According to L3Harris, they can move from observing a wide area to assessing a specific target without sacrificing image quality or mission efficiency.

The MX-10 is designed to fit aircraft size, weight and power requirements. L3Harris says its compact design helps maximize endurance while providing the imagery needed to inform decisions throughout a flight.

In Australia, surveillance missions can take crews over remote transportation corridors, energy infrastructure and sparsely populated regions. Long transits and changing environmental conditions add to the challenge of maintaining observation over large areas.

The same demands apply to border security, disaster response and public safety missions. L3Harris says effective ISR requires reliable situational awareness and timely, actionable information, beyond simply collecting imagery.

Equipment support also plays a role in keeping aircraft and crews ready. The WESCAM MX-Series is backed by training, technical support and lifecycle sustainment to help operators maintain availability and manage systems over their service lives.

SYPAQ supplies regional expertise to adapt those capabilities to Australian operating requirements. L3Harris says experienced aircrews and mission operators, working with its sensor technology, can improve situational awareness and decision-making.
