L3Harris Technologies has issued a purchase order to Wojskowe Zaklady Elektroniczne S.A. to produce Attitude Control Motors for the U.S. Army’s Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile. WZE, a Polish government defence company, will act as a certified supplier for the PAC-3 programme.

L3Harris said it has worked with Lockheed Martin and WZE to establish in-country missile component production for Poland’s Wisla air defence system. The order is intended to strengthen the global solid rocket motor supply chain and expand production capacity for critical munitions.

“L3Harris is committed to increasing capacity for critical munitions that protect our country and our allies,” said Scott Alexander, President, Missile Propulsion, Missile Solutions, L3Harris.

“This important milestone with WZE demonstrates key progress in diversifying our missile propulsion supply base while ensuring our global allies are equipped with critical defense technology,” Alexander said.

The purchase order follows installation of specialised equipment at a new WZE production facility in Zielonka, Poland. WZE personnel also completed extensive U.S.-based training at L3Harris’ solid rocket motor production campus in Camden, Arkansas.

WZE has completed a Production Readiness Review, Manufacturing Readiness Review and Production Line Verification. L3Harris said those steps clear the way for WZE to begin low-rate initial production in the near future.

The PAC-3 missile is a mobile, high-velocity interceptor designed for long-range, medium- to high-altitude, all-weather operations. It uses hit-to-kill technology to intercept threats including tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and aircraft.

Each PAC-3 interceptor contains 180 Attitude Control Motors. The egg-sized motors fire to refine the missile’s course and support body-to-body impact with the target.

L3Harris has provided propulsion for the Patriot missile family since its inception. The company said it powers every PAC-3 variant currently in production.
