L3Harris Technologies is supplying power systems for the U.S. Navy’s Columbia-class submarines, extending work established across the Virginia-class fleet. The company provides power distribution systems and universal modular masts for every Virginia-class submarine. The Columbia program brings that experience to the Navy’s next-generation strategic deterrent. L3Harris said its equipment would support the submarines when they begin patrols.

“The Navy trusts us with the most critical systems on its most advanced platforms, and that is not something we take lightly,” said Nino DiCosmo, president of Maritime at L3Harris. “Every power system we deliver has to work the first time and every time after that, whether a submarine is on its first patrol or its fiftieth.”

Submarine electrical networks must keep sensors, weapons and crew systems operating for months at sea. Their components must withstand shock, manage heat and meet electromagnetic compatibility requirements.

L3Harris designs and tests equipment against those requirements across its naval power portfolio. That work includes switchgear, power protection systems and power conversion technologies.

The company is investing in technologies for increasingly complex naval platforms. Advanced radars, directed-energy weapons and new propulsion architectures are expected to place greater demands on shipboard electrical systems.

L3Harris presented those investments as part of its long-term support for the Navy’s current and future fleets. It did not disclose spending amounts or announce a new contract.
