The CV90, produced by BAE Systems Hägglunds, is one of the world’s most advanced infantry fighting vehicles, known for its versatility and combat effectiveness. Lithuania aims to acquire enough vehicles to equip two mechanised battalions, potentially purchasing over 100 units. These IFVs will work in tandem with the newly acquired Leopard 2 tanks, further strengthening Lithuania’s armoured and mechanised capabilities.
General Vaikšnoras highlighted the CV90’s importance in complementing the nation’s tank battalions, offering infantry support and enhancing overall operational flexibility. The Defence Minister has been tasked with initiating procurement procedures and ensuring industrial cooperation with Lithuanian companies. Once manufacturer proposals are reviewed, the State Defence Council will make the final decision, with the purchase funded through Lithuania’s Defence Fund.
