Lockheed Martin ramps up cruise missile production capacity

By Defence Industry Europe

Lockheed Martin has secured a USD 130 million contract with the U.S. Department of Defense to expand its cruise missile production capacity, the Pentagon announced on Tuesday. The contract, which is set to run until mid-December 2027, will enhance manufacturing at the company's facilities in Orlando, Florida.

The deal focuses on boosting the output of Lockheed Martin’s AGM-158 family of missiles, particularly the AGM-158B Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile Extended Range (JASSM-ER) and the AGM-158C Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM). These missiles are key components in the arsenals of the U.S. military and its allies, known for their precision and long-range strike capabilities.

The expansion comes in response to increasing international demand. In recent months, Poland and the Netherlands signed agreements to purchase AGM-158B JASSM-ER missiles, with Poland acquiring several hundred and the Netherlands up to 120. The growing number of countries operating Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Lightning II fighter jets is driving further interest in these advanced missile systems.

Beyond international sales, the expansion is also aimed at meeting the needs of the U.S. military. The contract includes full funding, which was made available at the time of signing, ensuring that Lockheed Martin can scale up production to meet both domestic and export demands.
