The TESEO MK2/E will be installed on future naval units including FREMM EVO class frigates, MPCS/PPA (Multi-Purpose Combat Ship/Pattugliatori Polivalenti d’Altura), and the new generation DDX destroyers. It will also complement the existing MK2/A version already in service on FREMM and Horizon class vessels.
The missile is a completely new system designed to meet current and future operational requirements of the Italian Navy. It features Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) seeker technology, providing advanced capabilities against long-range naval and land targets.
It also enables enhanced mission planning with in-flight control via satellite data link, and includes a secondary deep strike capability. These features make the TESEO MK2/E a significant upgrade in Italy’s naval strike capacity.
Lorenzo Mariani, MBDA Executive Group Director of Sales & Business Development, and Managing Director of MBDA in Italy, said: “I am particularly proud of the signing of this contract, which confirms the success of a process led in full synergy with our Navy. In addition, it is fully aligned with the roadmaps defined with the development contract.”
“Starting the production of TESEO MK2/E demonstrates not only that the product is mature and fully compliant with the Navy’s requirements, but also that it perfectly complements MBDA’s portfolio, adding a new benchmark capability in the anti-ship domain, to be offered to foreign markets as well,” Mariani added.
The TESEO MK2/E is positioned as a response to evolving threats and shifting operational needs. Drawing on the legacy of the TESEO family (known globally as OTOMAT), it is designed to offer flexibility for adaptation to international customers and a marked improvement in anti-ship warfare capabilities.
