Nammo: historic large order for artillery ammunition

By Defence Industry Europe

The Norwegian defence industry company Nammo will soon receive a huge order for production of the 155 mm artillery ammunition for the Norwegian Armed Forces. The details of the future agreement are being negotiated but Norwegian defence and finance ministers have already announced that the deal will be worth around NOK 2.6 billion (EUR 242.3 million).

If the contract with this value is signed, it will be the largest ammunition order in the Nammo ’s history. The contract will cover the purchase of a significant but undisclosed number of 155 mm IM HE-ER shells.

“I am very happy to that the Norwegian government has decided to buy ammunition for 2.6 billion NOK. This is a very important contract, and we will see a lot of extra activity here at Raufoss in the coming years as a consequence. I am proud of the work all our employees do in all of the 11 countries where we have a presence. The war in Ukraine is a dark and terrible background, but we do an important and necessary job: to get the armed forces what they need and improve their capabilities”, said Nammo CEO Morten Brandtzæg.

According to the company, the execution of a such large order for artillery ammunition will require an increase in Nammo ’s production capacity and significant investment in industrial infrastructure.

The new buildings with specialistic machinery and production hardware likely will be built at the company’s facility in Raufoss. Nammo also will need to significantly increase the number of employees.
