This is the fourth Neptune Strike iteration of 2026. NATO said the focus is on improving readiness, interoperability and command and control while preparing forces to respond rapidly to crises.
Italy’s Carrier Strike Group centres on ITS Cavour, with support from ITS Andrea Doria and ITS Carlo Margottini / ITS Fasan. The Turkish Expeditionary Strike Group includes TCG Anadolu, TCG Gaziantep and TCG Gur.
The UK Carrier Strike Group is led by HMS Prince of Wales, accompanied by HMS Dauntless and Norway’s HNOMS Fridtjof Nansen. The wider activity combines carrier, amphibious, surface and subsurface forces with supporting capabilities.
NATO describes Neptune Strike as an enhanced vigilance activity combining realistic training with integrated operations. Participating forces will practise the procedures and coordination needed to operate together across different regions.
Joint Force Command Norfolk said the activity integrates maritime formations with NATO’s wider command structures. It supports the command’s work in the North Atlantic and High North, where safeguarding sea lines of communication helps sustain the transatlantic link.
The activity is intended to strengthen NATO’s ability to coordinate effects across several domains at speed and scale. The alliance said it also supports deterrence, territorial defence and freedom of manoeuvre across the Euro-Atlantic area.
