Naval Group is offering to build and maintain FDI frigates in Denmark as it seeks a role in the Royal Danish Navy’s modernisation. The French shipbuilder signed three memoranda of understanding with Danish companies on 21 October to support its proposal.
The agreements cover cooperation with Copenhagen Global, Saab Danmark and SH Defence. They were signed at an industry event hosted by Naval Group in Copenhagen.
Copenhagen Global will cooperate on drones, autonomous systems and military payloads, while Saab Danmark’s agreement covers communications equipment. SH Defence will work on research and development involving containerised mission modules, drone launch and recovery systems, and diving equipment.
“We’ve been working with these partners for quite some time now, and globally with the Danish industry, and we are honored to involve them even more in our proposal for Denmark’s future frigates,” said Guillaume Weisrock, Naval Group’s senior vice president of sales for Europe and North America. Construction and maintenance in Denmark would depend on selection of the FDI.
“We have an extensive experience of working with local industry all over the world and we will build on that experience in Denmark, should the FDI frigate be selected. With our Danish partners, Naval Group is able to build and maintain the FDI frigate in Denmark.”
Naval Group said it has worked with more than 20 Danish companies over the past 15 years and maintains contacts with almost 50. It is inviting more suppliers to join the Danish proposal and participate in its wider supply chain, including maintenance and in-service support.
The company cited its work with more than 75 Greek partners supplying FDI production and other programmes. That experience forms part of its case for involving Danish industry in construction and long-term support.
France, Greece and Sweden have ordered a combined 13 FDI frigates. At the time of the announcement, two had been delivered, another was due within days and five were at various stages of production.
