According to the companies, the agreement strengthens existing industrial cooperation and formalises Navantia’s role as Kongsberg Naval Services’ industrial and technical partner for the programme. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency, reflecting the strategic importance of the programme for Norway’s naval capabilities.
Under the agreement, Kongsberg Naval Services, part of the Kongsberg Group, will act as prime contractor for the programme. Navantia will participate as the original designer, systems integrator and original equipment manufacturer for the frigates.
As original equipment manufacturer, Navantia will provide engineering and design support as well as technical expertise related to the vessels. The company will also support modernisation activities and future technical development intended to maintain operational availability and adapt the frigates to future Royal Norwegian Navy requirements.
According to Navantia, the new agreement represents the company’s third contract in Norway linked to support for the Fridtjof Nansen-class fleet. The framework adds to the Follow On Technical Support contract signed 13 years ago and still in force, as well as the Important Modifications contract signed in 2023 and currently under execution.
The company stated that the continuation of these contracts reflects long-term cooperation with Norwegian defence authorities and sustained confidence from the Norwegian Ministry of Defence in Navantia’s capabilities. According to the statement, the company remains a strategic partner for the sustainment and modernisation of the F 310 frigates.
Navantia also stated that the agreement further strengthens defence industrial cooperation between Spain and Norway in the naval sector. The company described the Fridtjof Nansen-class programme as one of its most significant international naval projects.
