Northrop Grumman SYNOPTICS is marking its 25th anniversary as a Northrop Grumman brand, highlighting its role in laser-enabled defense systems. The company cited the LITENING targeting pod, Airborne Laser Mine Detection System and Joint High Power Solid State Laser project as examples of programs it has supported.

“This year marks the 25th anniversary of becoming a Northrop Grumman brand,” the company said. “Northrop Grumman SYNOPTICS is proud to support mission-critical systems across the business such as the LITENING targeting pod, Airborne Laser Mine Detection System (ALMDS), and more.”

SYNOPTICS specializes in high-precision laser crystals and optical components used in solid-state laser systems. Its defense applications include target designators, range finders, remote sensing, directed-energy weapons, secure communications and classified programs.

The company says its technology supports target accuracy, threat detection and countermeasures, with applications across battlefield sensing and protection systems. Its work on the Joint High Power Solid State Laser project also placed its components within Northrop Grumman’s high-power laser development portfolio.

“We have helped make laser history with our involvement in Northrop Grumman’s Joint High Power Solid State Laser (JHPSSL) project,” the company said. “At the time of its release, JHPSSL broke power and run-time records, exceeding 100kW.”

SYNOPTICS has more than six decades of experience producing precision laser crystals and optical components. Its 70,000-square-foot, vertically integrated manufacturing facility in Charlotte, North Carolina, includes dedicated clean rooms for component production.
