OCCAR completes Factory Acceptance Tests for third Kronos GM HP radar

By Defence Industry Europe

OCCAR has announced the successful completion of Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for the third Kronos GM HP radar, a key component of the FSAF-PAAMS SAMP/T NG system, at Leonardo’s Fusaro facility in Italy. The tests, held on 29-30 October 2024, evaluated the radar’s features and performance, confirming that it meets all required specifications.

The Kronos GM HP radar, designed by Leonardo, is a multifunctional sensor capable of countering various air and missile threats. This advanced radar, which combines high tactical mobility with rapid strategic deployment, will be integrated into the Italian variant of the SAMP/T NG system for both the Italian Army and Air Force.

The radar production contract was awarded to EUROSAM by OCCAR in December 2021 to support future integration into SAMP/T NG units expected for delivery from 2026. With the completion of these Factory Acceptance Tests, the project has reached a crucial production milestone under OCCAR-EA’s supervision.

OCCAR expressed satisfaction with the FAT results and highlighted this achievement as a positive indicator for the ongoing success of the SAMP/T NG programme. “This is a significant progress made by industry, which demonstrates a strong commitment to the programme’s ultimate success,” stated an OCCAR representative, emphasising the importance of continued industry support in achieving the programme’s goals.
