By Defence Industry Europe

Photonis, a subsidiary of French optronics provider Exosens, has been awarded a critical role in a seven-year contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) in collaboration with Qioptiq Limited. The contract, part of the Dismounted Close Combat project, focuses on equipping British soldiers with advanced TALON Fused Weapon Sights to enhance their combat capabilities, Exosens said in a press release.

The TALON Fused Weapon Sight integrates both image intensification and thermal imaging, providing soldiers with enhanced visibility and situational awareness in low-light and challenging operational environments.

Photonis will supply its high-performance 4G 16mm image intensifier tubes, known for their superior resolution and compact design, contributing to the system’s reliability and effectiveness.

Qioptiq Limited is responsible for delivering the TALON system, which plays a vital role in the British Army’s close combat operations.

The dual-channel capability of the sight ensures seamless interoperability with the existing equipment fleet, improving soldiers’ performance in critical missions.

Frédéric Guilhem, Chief Commercial Officer of Photonis, expressed the company’s pride in being part of this initiative, stating, “Our world-class image intensification technology will ensure that British forces are equipped with the best possible technology for success in critical operations.”
