The Polish defence procurement agency announced that the contract is valued at approximately USD 745 million. Deliveries of the missiles are scheduled to take place between 2029 and 2035.
Poland plans to equip its fighter jets with the AARGM-ER missiles, which are designed to target and neutralize enemy radars and air and missile defence systems. According to the Ministry of National Defence, this acquisition will significantly enhance the capabilities of the Polish Air Force. The AARGM-ER missile boasts a range exceeding 200 kilometers, offering Poland an advanced tool for counter-air defence operations.
Manufactured by Northrop Grumman, the AARGM-ER is a supersonic, air-launched tactical missile system. It is widely regarded as the most advanced countermeasure against modern surface-to-air threats. Building on the existing AARGM design, the AARGM-ER incorporates a new high-performance airframe, propulsion system, and advanced warhead to deliver superior effectiveness.
The missile system is being integrated into the U.S. Navy’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler aircraft, as well as the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. It is also being adopted by international partners, further solidifying its position as a critical asset for modern air combat scenarios.
