The Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) is supporting the project with €1.4 million in funding. The expansion is expected to create around 80 highly skilled engineering jobs at the Zalaegerszeg facility.
A key focus of the project is the continued advancement of Rheinmetall’s modern vehicle systems. This includes development work on the Lynx KF41 armoured fighting vehicle and the Panther KF51 main battle tank.
“In collaboration with our partners from the global Rheinmetall Group and with the support of HIPA, we will significantly increase our capacities and capabilities. This will enable us to increase Hungary’s contribution to some of the latest developments in defence technology, particularly in the field of military vehicles”, explained Paul Walf, CEO of Rheinmetall Hungary Zrt.
Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szíjjártó, attended the announcement ceremony and welcomed Rheinmetall’s commitment. “This investment will take us one step closer to achieving the goal outlined in the ‘Zrínyi 2026’ programme, which aims at providing our armed forces with modern equipment, manufactured domestically wherever possible”, stated Péter Szíjjártó.
Rheinmetall’s move reflects its continued strategy of growth in Hungary. By combining international expertise with local knowledge, the company aims to deliver advanced defence systems in cooperation with Hungarian partners.
