Ukraine receives first KF41 Lynx infantry fighting vehicle from Rheinmetall

By Defence Industry Europe

German defence company Rheinmetall has delivered its first KF41 Lynx infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) to Ukraine. The delivery, which took place at the end of 2024, marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between Rheinmetall and the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The KF41 Lynx, a state-of-the-art IFV, was produced at Rheinmetall’s factory in Unterlüß, Germany. Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger confirmed the delivery during an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, stating that the vehicle is currently undergoing testing by Ukraine’s armed forces ahead of a potential serial production order.

Introduced in 2018, the KF41 Lynx is among the most advanced infantry fighting vehicles in the world. It boasts a crew capacity of three personnel while transporting up to eight additional passengers. The vehicle can reach speeds of up to 80 kilometres per hour, offering a blend of mobility and firepower.

The Lynx is designed with comprehensive protection systems, capable of withstanding anti-tank weapons, medium-calibre ammunition, artillery shrapnel, and bomb blasts. For enhanced survivability, it can be equipped with active protection systems to counter threats in real-time.

Armed with cannons and machine guns, the Lynx is well-suited for engaging enemy infantry and lightly armoured targets. Its robust design ensures it can meet the demands of modern warfare, providing critical support to frontline operations.

Last year, Oleksandr Kamyshin, Ukraine’s then-Minister of Strategic Industries, announced plans for joint production of Lynx vehicles with Rheinmetall by the end of 2024. While no additional updates on the production partnership have been released, the delivery of the first vehicle represents a key step forward in this collaboration.
