With the acquisition of 72.5% of the Romanian vehicle manufacturer, the German company is strengthening its presence on NATO’s eastern flank. So far, Rheinmetall has established production facilities in Hungary and Ukraine. The company is also present in Lithuania.
Automecanica MediaČ™ has been a trusted industry partner of the Romanian Armed Forces for many years. Now the German company is gaining a significant advantage in its marketing efforts in the Romanian market.
During the Black Sea Defence and Aerospace exhibition, which took place on May 22-24 in the capital of Romania, German defence solutions provider Rheinmetall presented a broad range of its offerings under the Rheinmetall Automecanica brand.

Rheinmetall’s offer for the Romanian Armed Forces includes the Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). This is the newest Rheinmetall vehicle in this class. So far, it has been selected by the Hungarian Defence Forces, and Rheinmetall, in cooperation with the Hungarian government, has established a production facility for the Lynx vehicle in Hungary.
As Defence Industry Europe reported, the Romanian Ministry of National Defence intends to purchase more than 250 infantry fighting vehicles. However, the tender has not been formally launched yet.

During the exhibition in Bucharest, Rheinmetall also exhibited air defence solutions. One of them was the Skynex short-range air defence system with the Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3 and Oerlikon X-TAR3D Tactical Acquisition Radar mounted on the HX truck. The Skynex air defence system has been delivered by the German government to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which are using this solution to address a broad range of aerial threats, mainly to intercept drones and cruise missiles.

In addition, the German company presented the Skyranger air defence turret designed for integration with land platforms.

Rheinmetall’s offer for the Romanian Armed Forces includes various types of 120mm tank ammunition.
