Baykar advances development of KEMANKEŞ 2 mini intelligent cruise missile

By Defence Industry Europe

Turkish defence and aerospace company Baykar Technologies is progressing with the development of the KEMANKEŞ 2 mini intelligent cruise missile, following a successful second test of the new weapon system. The company recently released footage showcasing the missile's capabilities.

According to Baykar Technologies, the second test of the KEMANKEŞ 2 was a success. The video published by the company shows the missile launching from a moving vehicle, demonstrating its versatility and advanced engineering.

The KEMANKEŞ 2 is a small unmanned aerial vehicle powered by a jet engine, with a range of 200 kilometres and an endurance of up to one hour. It leverages artificial intelligence to target high-risk and strategic objectives within enemy territory. Equipped with an optical guidance system, the Kemankes 2 can detect and engage targets under challenging weather conditions, both day and night. The real-time video feed from the missile’s camera is transmitted to a ground control station, ensuring precise targeting. Additionally, the system is resistant to electronic jamming, enhancing its reliability in contested environments.

Baykar emphasizes that the KEMANKEŞ 2 has been entirely developed by Turkish enterprises, highlighting the country’s growing self-sufficiency in advanced defence technologies.

The first version of the intelligent mini cruise missile, KEMANKEŞ 1, was unveiled to the public during the Teknofest exhibition held at Atatürk Airport between April and May 2023. On 14 June 2023, the KEMANKEŞ 1 successfully completed its first test, being launched from a Bayraktar TB2 drone.
