The M1156 PGK is designed for use with 155 mm artillery ammunition, providing precision fire at long ranges despite its high unit cost. U.S. Army operational experience cited in the announcement indicates that its impact error does not exceed 50 meters, regardless of firing distance.
The Department of War has also commissioned development of a modified version, designated M1156A1. That decision draws on previous operational experience, including lessons from the war in Ukraine.
Ammunition fitted with the M1156 PGK can be fired by artillery systems configured to use M795 and M549A1 projectiles. Compatible platforms include the M777A2 and M109A6/A7, as well as systems operated by other NATO countries.
