Britain ordered the 72 artillery systems in May 2026 under a joint programme with Germany. Both countries are now qualifying the 155 mm L/52 remote-controlled weapon system.
Following verification, Rheinmetall will supply 72 elevating masses and associated onboard tools. The company will also support training materials and technical documentation.
Production will take place at Rheinmetall’s new gun manufacturing facility in Telford. The site is entering service in stages.
The RCH 155 is supplied by ARTEC, a joint venture between Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland. Both shareholders participate in the programme as subcontractors.
The system combines the GTK Boxer wheeled armoured vehicle with an automated artillery module derived from the Panzerhaubitze 2000. Its 155 mm gun is housed in an unmanned, fully automated turret.
The wheeled howitzer is designed to deliver protected mobility and automated firepower. It can also fire while moving.
The contract expands Rheinmetall’s role in the British-German RCH 155 programme. The company is also increasing production capacity for 155 mm weapons and ammunition.
