Swedish defence company Saab has officially started serial production of its advanced passive electronic warfare sensor, Sirius Compact, at a newly opened facility in Tampere, Finland. The inauguration marked a key step in Saab’s growing presence in Finland, with both Finland’s Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister, Riikka Purra, and Mayor of Tampere, Kalervo Kummola, attending the event.

The move responds to increasing demand for the Sirius Compact sensor, designed to enhance situational awareness through passive detection and classification of various signal emitters. This development signals a broader expansion strategy for Saab, with a focus on increased exports and long-term growth in the region.

The newly established production site is already operational, and Saab has confirmed that the first serial-produced units will be delivered to customers in April 2025. The facility enables a high-paced production process aimed at ensuring timely delivery of cutting-edge technology.

Sirius Compact consists of a modular and scalable sensor family, including the R-ESM variant for radar and datalink signals and the C-ESM variant for communication signals. These systems offer improved geolocation and threat assessment capabilities in a compact format suited for various operational needs.

“Our product-focused research and development work enables efficient production and a product-driven business model. This enables fast deliveries and performance of the latest technology for our customers,” said Kristian Tornivaara, Managing Director of Saab Finland.
