Slovenian Army tests Mangart 25 air defence system from Valhalla Turrets

By Defence Industry Europe

The Slovenian Army, in collaboration with a consortium of Slovenian defence industry companies and led by Valhalla Turrets, successfully conducted the first test firing of the Mangart 25 air defence system. The test took place at the Bač firing range, showcasing the system integrated on the Perun 4x4 vehicle and the Loki 762 weapon station mounted on the light reconnaissance nuclear, radiological, chemical, and biological defence (NRBC) vehicle Cobra 4x4.

The development of the Mangart 25, a lightweight remotely controlled air defence turret system integrated on a 4×4 Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), is a significant achievement of Slovenian engineering expertise. This project, spearheaded by Valhalla Turrets from Ljubljana, is one of the key development initiatives funded by the Ministry of Defence. Following this successful initial test firing, further developmental activities and extensive testing will be conducted to obtain the necessary certifications and achieve the ultimate goal of operational deployment within the Slovenian Army units.

The event also featured the unveiling of the Loki 762, a lightweight Remote Controlled Weapon (RCW) station. The Loki 762 is another product of Valhalla Turrets’ engineering team, with all crucial mechanical, optical, and electronic components manufactured in Slovenia. Currently installed on the LIV JRKBO Cobra 4×4 reconnaissance vehicle, it is one of the most compact remote-controlled weapon stations available and the only one on the market that supports three calibres: 5.56 mm, 7.62 mm, and 12.7 mm. The Slovenian Army participated in the final development phases of the Loki 762, with its operational use in the 7.62 mm calibre planned for reconnaissance vehicles JRKBO Cobra 4×4 and MAN 8×8 tactical trucks.
