Spanish Eurofighters conduct Close Air Support training with NATO allies in Romania

By Defence Industry Europe

Spanish Eurofighters conducted joint training with United States and French Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTACs) in December, reinforcing NATO’s combat readiness and interoperability. The exercise highlighted the alliance’s ability to operate seamlessly under challenging conditions, underscoring its collective commitment to security in the Euro-Atlantic region.

Over the course of the month, six Spanish Eurofighters participated in Close Air Support (CAS) exercises alongside multinational JTACs. The drills included complex scenarios such as night operations and adverse weather, pushing the operational limits of the aircraft while maintaining precision and mission success.

CAS missions require exceptional coordination between air and ground forces, with JTACs providing critical guidance to ensure support is delivered accurately, avoiding risks to friendly forces or collateral damage. By adhering to NATO’s standardised procedures, Spain’s 14th Wing demonstrated their advanced training and operational expertise.

“These types of missions are crucial for practising and enhancing joint operations with NATO Allies,” said Lieutenant Colonel Garrido, Commander of the Paznic detachment. He commended the professionalism of his pilots, highlighting their ability to overcome challenges such as language barriers, geographical constraints, and adverse weather conditions.

The Paznic detachment remains focused on continued collaboration with NATO partners, aiming to refine operational procedures and strengthen collective interoperability. This effort aligns with Spain’s unwavering dedication to NATO’s principles and its commitment to regional and global security.
