“This Camden load, assembly, and pack munitions facility is just one of several modernization investments the Army is making to reinforce and strengthen our defense industrial base,” said Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll. He emphasised the importance of accelerating war-winning capabilities, stating: “It is not lost on us that a key component of victory on the battlefield starts in our production facilities.”
LAP facilities represent the final step in artillery projectile manufacturing, where projectile bodies are filled with explosives, assembled, and packed for transport. The new Camden site includes two modern LAP lines and is expected to reach a production rate of 50,000 completed projectiles per month when fully operational.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to increase total monthly production of 155 mm projectiles to 100,000 units. Since 2022, the Army has nearly quadrupled its monthly output of this key munition, reflecting efforts to meet global demands and adapt to the realities of modern conflict.
“Today is the result of a robust partnership between industry, local, state, and federal government teammates,” said Pat Mason, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology). “All parties worked quickly and flexibly to accelerate the construction you see around you.”
