The U.S. Army and Day & Zimmerman have opened a new facility in Parsons, Kansas, dedicated to producing 155mm M795 artillery projectiles. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked a step in expanding U.S. munitions production capacity.

The facility supports the Army’s broader effort to modernize its ammunition production base. It focuses on the load, assemble and pack stage, the final process before delivery to operational units.

At full capacity, the plant is expected to produce up to 12,000 projectiles per month. This contributes to the Army’s goal of increasing overall 155mm production to 100,000 rounds monthly.

The expansion is supported by a $36 million Army investment. Funding covers engineering development and production establishment activities.

Maj. Gen. John T. Reim, Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Agile Sustainment and Ammunition, said: “This facility is a testament to the strength of the partnership between the U.S. Army and American industry.” He added: “It marks the 13th ribbon cutting in the Army’s ongoing campaign to strengthen the Arsenal of Freedom through munitions production, modernization and expansion of our Defense Industrial Base.”

Reim further stated: “The speed and scale of our response to current global conflicts demand that we increase production capacity of critical munitions like 155mm artillery.” He added: “The work done here in Parsons is another important step in furthering a credible deterrence with the added industrial capacity to sustain combat operations over time.”

The M795 projectile is a key munition used in modern ground warfare. It plays a central role in supporting operational readiness and combat effectiveness.

The new facility incorporates automation and updated production processes. These enhancements are intended to improve efficiency and output.

The expansion is part of a wider effort to strengthen the U.S. defense industrial base. It also supports the delivery of munitions to U.S. forces and international partners.

The Army said the increased production capacity will help meet operational demands. It is also intended to support long-term sustainment of military operations.
